ConsenSys confirms MetaMask wallet funds are unaffected following security incident

Joseph Lubin stated that self-custody funds remain secure after an infrastructure issue led to precautionary validator shutdowns.

ConsenSys founder and Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin has reassured users that MetaMask wallets and customer funds were not compromised during a recent security incident. Lubin emphasized that self-custody architecture kept user assets safe, noting that the team continues to investigate and communicate directly with partners while keeping details of the open issue confidential.

The incident, first detected on September 30, prompted the team to take its validators offline as a precaution to reduce operational risks without exposing staked ETH. Staking partners also reacted: Lido announced it had exited MetaMask validators, while ConsenSys-developed Layer 2 network Linea exited validators linked to its Yield Boost vault on October 2, clarifying that vault control and assets were unharmed.

Network data reflects the operational response. Ethereum researcher Kaden reported that around 17,000 validators representing 513,000 ETH had exited, with over 800 validators pending as of October 1. Meanwhile, Validator Queue metrics recorded roughly 10,500 exited validators over the period, reducing the active count from 884,000 to 873,000 and accounting for about 336,000 ETH.

These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
