Vitalik Buterin Declares zkEVM Speed Race Won Following Airbender Prime Launch
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin stated that zkEVM development must pivot toward security after prover speeds reached real-time levels.
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin stated that the race to improve zkEVM prover speed is effectively resolved and called on developers to make security the sector's main priority. His comments followed the October 13 launch of Airbender Prime by ZKsync, a prover capable of generating zero-knowledge proofs in real time on a single graphics card.
According to benchmark data from the ZKsync team, a single NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell GPU proved 99% of 7,200 consecutive Ethereum mainnet blocks in under 10 seconds each, with no block exceeding 12 seconds including witness preparation. The architecture relies on STARK-based proofs built on the open RISC-V standard, integrating GKR sumchecks, WHIR polynomial commitments, BLAKE2s hashing, and an autonomous verifier.
Buterin outlined three core areas requiring attention now that proving latency is no longer a bottleneck, spanning equivalence with Ethereum specifications to the fundamental soundness of the proof systems themselves. ZKsync noted that lowering hardware barriers allows more independent operators to verify blocks, safeguarding execution environments against unauthorized modifications.
These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
