Tether prepares Bitcoin return for USDT stablecoin through Utexo integration

The issuer plans to bring dollar-pegged tokens back to Bitcoin using off-chain RGB technology while maintaining core liquidity on Tron and Ethereum.

Tether is preparing to re-establish its USDT stablecoin on the Bitcoin network via the Utexo protocol, marking a return to the asset's original platform more than a decade after its initial release. The new rollout is built on RGB protocol technology, which records only cryptographic commitments on the Bitcoin blockchain while keeping transaction data between counterparties private.

Development is spearheaded by startup Utexo, which secured $7.5 million in funding led by Tether. Co-founder Viktor Ihnatiuk confirmed the company holds a commercial issuance licence and recently held discussions with institutional representatives, including Morgan Stanley, regarding USDT on Bitcoin.

The deployment will rely on bridges drawing liquidity from Tron and Ethereum, which currently hold roughly $92 billion and $74 billion in USDT respectively, accounting for over 90% of the token's $184 billion supply. Tether chief executive Paolo Ardoino previously stated the initiative aims to provide native, private, and scalable stablecoin functionality on Bitcoin without replacing its presence on other major networks.

These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
