Scammer Loses 60 Bitcoin to Tampered Ledger Hardware Wallets in Southeast Asia

A fraudster lost over 60 bitcoin, worth approximately $4.8 million, after depositing illicit earnings into tampered Ledger hardware wallets. The funds, originating from a paid-task employment scam, were drained across three newly generated addresses alongside hundreds of other wallets compromised in Southeast Asia starting October 9.
According to forensic details reported by Chainalysis and manufacturer disclosures, the affected units were purchased through CryptoBilis, an authorized retailer serving Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Physical inspections confirmed that malicious actors had modified genuine devices before sale by embedding a hardware component and a SIM card inside the casing.
The implant captures the 24-word recovery phrase directly from the display screen and transmits it over cellular networks. Attackers then reconstruct the private keys remotely and wait for users to deposit assets before draining them. In response to the breach, Ledger instructed its regional distributors to remove inventory from store shelves.
These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
