Starknet Opens Governance Vote on Potential Transition to Layer-1 Network
A non-binding community vote is underway on whether Starknet should explore transitioning from an Ethereum layer-2 into a standalone layer-1 blockchain.
Starknet has opened a seven-day non-binding governance vote running from October 15 to October 22, asking STRK holders whether the project should research becoming an independent layer-1 blockchain rather than operating as an Ethereum layer-2 network.
The proposal offers Yes, No, and Neutral options. A Yes vote initiates research and further discussions rather than an immediate migration. The Starknet Foundation stated that STRK would remain the native token regardless of the outcome, bridges connecting to Ethereum would remain open, and no migration timetable has been established. Early voting on October 15 showed 99.9% support by voting power across 293 ballots representing 179.8 million STRK.
StarkWare cites quantum security as a key driver for the potential move, targeting quantum resistance by 2027, compared to Ethereum's target roadmap date of December 2029. While Starknet's proof system uses quantum-resistant cryptography, its data availability and bridge currently depend on Ethereum. The vote follows a brief STRK price surge of over 50% on October 11.
These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
