CoinShares Schedules Liquidation of Bitcoin and Ether ETF for Late October

CoinShares will liquidate its crypto funds around October 21, triggering mandatory cash redemptions that may carry unexpected tax consequences for investors.

Asset manager CoinShares announced that its CoinShares Bitcoin and Ether ETF (BTF) along with its Altcoins ETF (DIME) will be liquidated on or around October 21, 2026. Investors holding shares will be able to trade them on Nasdaq through the market close on October 20. Following that date, remaining positions will be converted into cash distributions reflecting the net asset value minus fund expenses and liabilities.

While holdings inside retirement accounts such as IRAs or 401(k) plans remain shielded from immediate taxation, redemptions in standard taxable brokerage accounts will be treated as capital gain or loss events for the 2026 tax year. For long-term holders with substantial gains, the forced payout can increase combined income and subject a larger portion of Social Security benefits to federal taxation under standard IRS income thresholds.

The fund closures take place amid broader softening across digital asset markets. Bitcoin was recently trading near $83,000, down roughly 25% over the prior year, while Ether hovered near $2,700, down around 35%. Exchange operator Coinbase also recorded a second-quarter net loss of $359.5 million.

These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
