Tether prepares to reintroduce USDT on the Bitcoin network via Utexo protocol

The stablecoin issuer is backing a protocol designed to bring private transactions and native trading to Bitcoin without congesting its base blockchain.

Tether is preparing to bring its USDT stablecoin back to the Bitcoin network twelve years after first issuing tokens there. Supported by Tether, the Utexo project aims to facilitate confidential USDT transfers, peer-to-peer exchanges between Bitcoin and USDT, and bitcoin-collateralised loans.

To prevent network congestion on Bitcoin's base layer, which handles roughly seven transactions per second, Utexo relies on client-side validation inspired by the RGB protocol. Instead of recording transaction amounts and recipient addresses on the public ledger, the network registers only a cryptographic commitment, keeping specific transfer details on user devices.

USDT originally launched in 2014 on the Omni Layer before Tether discontinued support in 2023 alongside Bitcoin Cash's SLP due to low volume. Tether chief executive Paolo Ardoino has maintained that Bitcoin remains the natural home for USDT, following a launch on the Lightning Network via Taproot in January 2025. Tron and Ethereum currently host more than 80% of USDT's circulating supply.

How this piece reads Neutral tone +3
Site call on Bitcoin Neutral score -8.5

These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
