ZetaChain holders approve transition to Solana SPL token
ZetaChain community members voted to phase out the project's Cosmos-based layer-1 network and migrate its token to Solana.
ZetaChain tokenholders passed Governance Proposal 68 to shut down the project's independent Cosmos SDK-based layer 1 and migrate the native ZETA token to Solana. The measure received 99.4% approval with 58% voter turnout, passing the 40% quorum requirement. Under the plan, ZETA will become an SPL token on Solana via a 1:1 conversion, maintaining its existing supply and ticker symbol.
The vote does not initiate an immediate shutdown. Core contributors are set to introduce a subsequent proposal specifying the bridge withdrawal window, snapshot block height, shutdown schedule, claim procedures, and exchange migration timelines. Validator operations and staking rewards will remain active throughout the interim period. The project stated the move will allow it to shift engineering resources from layer-1 maintenance toward Anuma, its privacy-focused artificial intelligence tool.
ZetaChain originally launched in 2021 as an interoperability network and secured $27 million in 2023 from investors such as Jane Street Capital, Blockchain.com, Human Capital, and Sky9 Capital. The migration mirrors steps by other networks, including BounceBit, which migrated to BNB Smart Chain following a $3 million exploit, and Harmony, which proposed moving its token to Ethereum as part of an AI video initiative.
