Retail Trading Activity Shifts Toward Event Contracts as Altcoins Lag Bitcoin

Analysis from Vanda Research indicates individual investors are redirecting capital away from retail-driven cryptocurrencies toward prediction markets.

Retail investors are rotating funds away from equities and cryptocurrencies toward event-contract platforms, according to Eric Liu, co-founder of retail tracking firm Vanda Research. Speaking on a podcast, Liu noted that capital has flowed into platforms offering contracts on macroeconomic events, such as Federal Reserve interest rate decisions, coinciding with diminished retail activity in digital assets.

The report links this shift to the differing performance among cryptocurrencies over the past year. In the twelve months leading to October 4, Bitcoin declined by roughly 30%, whereas retail-heavy assets experienced steeper drops, with XRP falling about 50% and Dogecoin losing roughly 63%. Ethereum and Solana recorded declines of 40% and 47%, respectively.

The piece notes that institutional support has helped cushion Bitcoin, with U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs accumulating approximately 1.29 million BTC. By contrast, tokens that rely more heavily on individual investor demand have seen larger corrections as retail liquidity moves into alternative trading instruments.

These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
