Solana Network to Reduce Slot Time to 250 Milliseconds at Epoch 1037

Solana is scheduled to lower its target slot time from 300 to 250 milliseconds on September 18, 2026, around 05:01 UTC, coinciding with the start of epoch 1037. The parameter reduction accelerates network tempo, shortening the validity window for signed transactions to roughly 38 seconds while causing staking rewards to distribute in smaller, more frequent increments and speeding up delegation processes.

The change marks the third phase of the SIMD-0525 improvement proposal, which outlines a gradual transition down from an initial 400 milliseconds toward a final target of 200 milliseconds. Previous adjustments lowered slot times to 350 milliseconds on August 19 at epoch 1019 and to 300 milliseconds on August 25 at epoch 1023. Developer group Anza flagged the current activation on September 16, prior to its documentation on the official website.

Network participants who hold assets on centralized exchanges require no manual action, and the update involves no token migrations, contract claims, or wallet approvals. However, validators, delegators, and users signing transactions offline have been advised to review their configurations ahead of the transition.
