Fidelity Report Highlights Solana Network Stability While Noting Validator Centralization Risks
A study from Fidelity's Center for Applied Technology reviews Solana's two-year operational uptime alongside ongoing decentralization challenges.
According to a report by Fidelity’s Center for Applied Technology (FCAT), Solana has recorded zero mainnet outages over the past two years, reflecting progress in operational resilience, economic security, and overall network performance.
The research highlighted that the network's economic security is underpinned by robust staking participation and incentive mechanisms for validator performance. In addition, low latency, increased capacity, and low transaction costs were cited as key factors supporting scalable adoption.
However, the FCAT report indicated that certain decentralization metrics still require ongoing observation. Specific areas of concern include the concentration of staked tokens among a limited number of validator operators and identities, as well as dependencies related to hosting infrastructure and client software diversity.
The report also referenced recent technical optimizations on the network. In August 2026, Solana reduced its slot time to 350 milliseconds—the first such reduction since its inception—according to Jacob Creech, vice president of technology at the Solana Foundation. The foundation previously announced plans to reach a 200-millisecond slot time through three additional 50-millisecond reductions to improve network latency and confirmation speeds.
