Bitcoin Miners Shift Infrastructure Toward AI and High-Performance Computing
Declining mining margins and rising demand for power infrastructure have led major crypto mining firms to repurpose existing facilities for artificial intelligence.
Bitcoin mining profitability has faced pressure at major sites as network computing power slipped from over 1.1 zettahashes per second in October 2025 toward 900 exahashes per second. The contraction in active capacity led to mining difficulty reductions of 11.16% in February 2026 and 10.09% in June 2026.
In response to changing economics, several publicly traded miners are allocating power infrastructure toward artificial intelligence and high-performance computing. Core Scientific recorded a negative 56% gross margin on self-mining in the second quarter while generating roughly $80 million in gross profit from data-center colocation, and TeraWulf generated approximately 71% of its quarterly revenue through computing leases.
The transition reflects intense competition for energized land, grid connections, and electrical substations required by data center operators. While AI workloads require continuous, high-availability electricity, existing mining operations possessed grid-connected infrastructure that can be monetized more profitably by hosting AI hardware rather than running dedicated Bitcoin ASIC units.
These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
