Iran Eases Currency Restrictions to Permit Cross-Border Crypto Settlements
Iranian authorities are allowing exporters to settle trade using Bitcoin and Tether amid tightening international sanctions.
Iran's central bank has loosened foreign currency regulations to help domestic businesses repatriate overseas earnings and settle international trade using Bitcoin and Tether, according to a report by the Financial Times. The policy permits exporters to finance imports directly without having to exchange foreign currency at official government rates through state platforms.
The regulatory shift follows heightened enforcement by the United States. In early June, the U.S. Treasury sanctioned four Iranian cryptocurrency exchanges under its "Economic Fury" campaign. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that authorities had seized roughly $1 billion in Iranian digital assets and subsequently ordered a freeze on more than $130 million in crypto held in wallets linked to Iran's central bank.
Blockchain analytics firm TRM Labs reported in June that more than $3.8 billion in transactions occurred between exchange CoinEx and sanctioned Iranian entities over seven years. CoinEx denied having commercial ties with the Iranian government or providing channels to sanctioned parties. The Central Bank of Iran did not respond to requests for comment.
These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
