Solana Plans Mainnet Activation of Transaction V1 Format Ahead of Alpenglow
Solana is preparing to activate its Transaction V1 upgrade to expand maximum transaction sizes, with the Alpenglow consensus improvement scheduled for the following month.
Solana is scheduled to activate its Transaction V1 format on mainnet on September 9, 2026, according to a timeline shared by Jacob Creech, vice president of technology at the Solana Foundation. The upgrade is set to be followed by the Alpenglow consensus upgrade in October. However, the Foundation's official tracking page still lists Transaction V1 as pending feature activation without a confirmed date, while SOL traded around $103 on September 8.
Under Solana Improvement Documents SIMD-0296 and SIMD-0385, Transaction V1 expands the maximum single transaction capacity from 1,232 bytes to 4,096 bytes. The new ceiling aligns with standard memory-page sizes on validator hardware, replacing a limit originally based on IPv6 packet sizes. The extra capacity is intended to allow developers to pack more instructions and data into individual transactions without splitting operations.
The added space is designed to support data-heavy mechanisms including zero-knowledge proofs, multi-signature instructions, BLS signatures, and cross-chain transactions. The transition maintains backward compatibility for legacy and version-zero formats, while developers seeking to utilize the larger size will need updated SDKs. Although larger payloads require additional bandwidth, the upgrade does not introduce a separate per-byte fee structure.
These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
