Ethereum Leads Nearly $1 Billion in Crypto Market Liquidations
Forced closures across crypto derivatives totaled roughly $972 million over 24 hours, with Ethereum traders bearing the largest share of losses.
Liquidations in the cryptocurrency market totaled approximately $972 million across 182,574 traders over a 24-hour window ending October 15, 2026, according to data from CoinGlass. Long positions accounted for about 92% of the forced closures, representing around $891.2 million in wiped-out bets.
Ethereum saw the largest share of liquidations at roughly $283 million, outpacing Bitcoin liquidations of approximately $196 million as reported by Santiment. ETH fell to roughly $2,325 during the decline before rebounding to around $2,452 on October 16, leaving it almost 50% below its August 2025 peak of $4,946. By October 15, ETH was down about 18% in 2026, compared with a 7% decline for Bitcoin.
Santiment data shows that while ETH's dollar-denominated open interest declined roughly 11% between October 4 and October 14, the contraction mirrored an 11% drop in the asset's price. Measured in token terms, open interest held steady at around 6.23 million ETH over the same timeframe, indicating that derivatives traders maintained their underlying position sizes heading into the sell-off.
These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
