Flowra Launches Open Auction for Solana Blockspace and MEV
Flowra has introduced an open auction system for Solana's block-building layer, aiming to increase validator revenue and MEV competition.
Flowra, a Seoul-based blockchain infrastructure firm, unveiled an Open Orderflow Auction (OOA) designed to create a more competitive market for transaction inclusion on Solana. The system allows registered searchers to bid transparently for block space rather than relying on closed orderflow arrangements, potentially improving price discovery while letting validators capture more MEV-derived value.
Early testing on a single validator showed a 20.6% increase in compute units per block, with that validator rising from 84% to 101% of network average performance. The test also reported higher block fees than comparable software, 100% block production and 99.999% uptime.
Flowra is also introducing Programmable Block Policy, letting validators set their own transaction inclusion rules at the block-building layer. The company said this feature could help validators meet regulatory and institutional compliance needs without modifying Solana's base protocol. Flowra recently partnered with Honeypot, a compliance provider, to integrate sanctions screening at this layer.
According to Flowra CEO Harry Hwang, while Solana's technical performance has made it a leading network, its MEV market remains concentrated. The auction system aims to address this by opening block building to transparent competition and giving validators greater control over construction.
