BlackRock attributes Bitcoin pullback to deleveraging and capital flows
The asset manager characterizes a steep Bitcoin decline as a temporary positioning correction rather than a fundamental shift in the cryptocurrency's investment case.
BlackRock has attributed Bitcoin's sharp recent decline to excess leverage and shifting investment flows rather than any structural deterioration in the asset's long-term prospects.
Bitcoin surged above $120,000 in October 2025 before retracing more than half its value to below $60,000 by June 2026. According to BlackRock, the sell-off was driven by cascading liquidations in highly leveraged perpetual futures contracts—which had accumulated over $90 billion in open interest—combined with a macro risk-off event triggered by China tariff headlines. The asset manager noted that futures open interest fell a record $20 billion in a single day during the downturn.
Capital flows also played a role, with Bitcoin spot ETFs drawing $60 billion in inflows from January 2024 through October 2025, before experiencing over $5 billion in outflows as investors rotated into AI-themed products.
BlackRock maintains that Bitcoin's fundamental appeal as a portfolio diversifier and emerging monetary alternative remains intact. The firm notes that Bitcoin has exhibited low long-term correlation to traditional assets with positively skewed returns, and argues that a modest 1-2% allocation has historically improved risk-adjusted performance in a balanced 60/40 portfolio according to trailing 10-year analysis. The asset manager also observed that Bitcoin's volatility has trended lower over the past decade as market infrastructure matured, despite recent temporary spikes from leverage in perpetual futures.
These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
