The country's largest lender has been authorized to operate a digital asset exchange and provide custody services starting in December.

Russia’s largest bank, Sberbank, is preparing to launch digital asset trading on December 1 following regulatory authorization from the Central Bank of Russia. The central bank recently approved Sberbank to operate as a digital asset exchange, having previously granted the lender permission to provide crypto custody services.

Under the approval, Sberbank stated it will offer digital currency circulation services directly through its existing client interfaces. The institution is currently running tests involving Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Tether, though the broader range of tradable tokens will remain subject to central bank guidelines.

The decision brings the total number of approved digital asset exchange operators in Russia to nine, alongside institutions including T-Invest and VTB. Exchange licenses permit companies to process trading and conversions, whereas custody permissions cover asset storage and ownership tracking.

The move follows the enactment of Russia’s federal law on digital currencies and digital rights on September 1, which established a formal licensing structure. In contrast to the United States, where comprehensive legislation has faced delays and investment caps are absent, Russia has codified its framework into law.

These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
