Solana stalls below $80 after July momentum fades

Solana failed to sustain its early-July rally, with the token retreating from above $82 and settling near $74.28. The weakness is particularly notable given that July has historically been one of Solana's strongest months, with a median return of 21.4% across its previous six occurrences. This year's recovery fell well short of that benchmark and remains far below the January 2025 peak near $294.

Technical indicators reveal a market lacking directional conviction. The Average Directional Index stood at 13.53, well below the 20 threshold typically associated with developing trends. While the Negative Directional Indicator at 22.56 gave sellers a modest advantage over buyers at 16.82, the weak ADX suggested even bearish momentum remained limited. The first hurdle for buyers lies at the Bollinger Band midpoint of $74.93, followed by stronger resistance in the $78–$80 zone.

Trading volume has declined since June's sell-off and the early-July attempt to break higher, pointing to investor hesitation. US spot Solana ETFs held approximately $889 million in combined assets as of late July with cumulative net inflows of roughly $1.16 billion, yet the most recent daily inflow totalled only around $1.03 million, suggesting institutional support remains positive but insufficient to overcome overhead resistance. Meanwhile, robust blockchain activity has not translated into immediate token demand while broader market sentiment remains cautious.
