Tracked government Bitcoin reserves decreased slightly in 2026, driven by a sharp drop in Bhutan's balances despite additions from Kazakhstan and El Salvador.

Tracked Bitcoin holdings held by governments worldwide decreased by 1,635 BTC in 2026, sliding from 647,231 BTC at the start of the year to 645,596 BTC. Bhutan accounted for the most substantial reduction, with its recorded reserves falling 91% from 5,984 BTC to 518 BTC.

In contrast, Kazakhstan and El Salvador were the only two sovereign entities to increase their reserves over the period. Kazakhstan held an estimated 3,544 BTC, while El Salvador added 287 BTC to bring its total to 7,803 BTC. The United States remains the largest sovereign holder with 328,372 BTC, followed by China with 190,000 BTC, the United Kingdom with 61,245 BTC, and Ukrainian officials with 46,351 BTC.

Analysts noted that reductions in tracked balances do not necessarily confirm asset sales, as tokens may be shifted into unmonitored wallets, such as a recent United States government transfer of 833.6 BTC to Coinbase Prime. The broader market backdrop remains influenced by a negative Coinbase Premium Index, elevated bond yields, and macroeconomic uncertainty, with Bitcoin trading around $83,168.

These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
