Ethereum and Base Part Ways Over Native Account Abstraction Standards
Developers behind Ethereum and Base have abandoned plans to adopt a shared transaction format for programmable wallets.
Ethereum core developers and engineers working on the Coinbase-backed Base network have ended discussions aimed at harmonising transaction formats for programmable wallets. Ethereum's mainnet is proceeding with EIP-8141, while Base is pursuing EIP-8130 on its own timeline.
Both proposals seek to introduce native account abstraction, which integrates programmable smart-contract wallet logic directly into protocol validation rather than relying on standard externally owned accounts. Native implementation avoids the external relayer infrastructure associated with ERC-4337 and builds on the delegation capabilities introduced via EIP-7702 in the Pectra upgrade. The disagreement between the two development groups centres on the specific transaction architecture and the ordering of validation steps.
The divergence means wallets, indexers, and auditing tools supporting both ecosystems will have to maintain two distinct code paths, creating operational complexity and the risk of differing address formats across chains. Applications can mitigate some of these differences by using the existing ERC-5792 standard to remain agnostic across both implementations.
These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
