Tether expands gold and Bitcoin holdings as second-quarter operating profits reach 1.5 billion dollars
Stablecoin issuer Tether continues to allocate operating earnings into physical gold and Bitcoin reserves alongside its core USDT backing.
Tether reported $1.5 billion in net operating profit for the second quarter of 2026, driven largely by yields generated from U.S. Treasury bills and reverse repurchase agreements. As of June 30, the company held $187.75 billion in assets against $183.64 billion in liabilities, with circulating USDT exceeding $183.6 billion.
The firm continued converting portions of its operational surplus into reserve assets, adding 14 tonnes of physical gold during the quarter. This brought Tether's total gold holdings to more than 146 tonnes, valued at approximately $18.8 billion. Chief Executive Paolo Ardoino indicated an intention to allocate between 10% and 15% of Tether's proprietary investment portfolio to physical gold, separate from the liquid assets backing circulating USDT.
Tether also acquired approximately 1,800 Bitcoin during the period, raising its total balance to 98,933 BTC under its policy of allocating 15% of operating profits to the asset. The report also noted that KPMG delivered an unqualified audit opinion on Tether's 2025 financial statements in August.
These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
