Revolut Customer Data Breach Exposes Verification Records and Crypto Transaction Histories
A social engineering attack conducted through an authenticated government email domain compromised identity documents and complete Bitcoin logs for a group of users.
Revolut confirmed an unauthorized data release occurring on September 11 and 12, 2026, which exposed sensitive personal information and full cryptocurrency transaction records for a subset of its clientele. The incident did not involve direct system intrusion, malware, or compromised credentials, but rather an attacker submitting fraudulent requests using the genuine email domain of an unidentified government agency.
According to notifications provided to affected users and reported by CoinDesk, the disclosed material includes identity documents such as passports and driving licences, onboarding selfies, personal contact details, employment data, bank account statements, and entire transaction logs encompassing all Bitcoin transfers. The company stated that credentials, passcodes, and biometric templates were not accessed, meaning account access mechanisms remained intact.
Revolut told BeInCrypto that financial balances and internal systems were unaffected, and that law enforcement, data protection authorities, and the relevant government entity have been notified. While the total number of compromised accounts has not been made public, reports from independent investigator ZachXBT suggest the breach focused on a select cohort of high-balance accounts.
