Aave Founder Opposes Ethereum Staking Reward Proposal

Stani Kulechov argues that a draft change to Ethereum's staking economics misses the protocol's true priorities.

A new draft proposal called EIP-8361 has triggered debate within the Ethereum community over how staking rewards are structured. The proposal would reduce consensus layer issuance as more ETH is staked, and would burn all rewards once staked ETH reaches approximately 50% of total supply. Backers contend this would lower dilution and preserve ETH's neutral status, while critics worry it could create complications for staking participation, institutional adoption, and decentralized finance.

Aave founder Stani Kulechov has emerged as an opponent, arguing that Ethereum is pursuing the wrong priorities. He contends that cutting staking rewards would not address the protocol's most pressing needs and could make ETH less appealing as an asset.

Kulechov argues that Ethereum should not focus on reducing staking rewards, lowering issuance, or optimizing staking insurance, claiming these are not the network's critical issues. Instead, he believes the protocol should concentrate on privacy, scalability, and security improvements. At the application layer, he sees greater potential in expanding Ethereum's core uses: stablecoins, DeFi, and real-world assets that bring traditional finance on-chain.

Kulechov warned that EIP-8361 would not achieve its authors' goals and could damage the ecosystem. The proposal would cap staking rewards at 0% once more than half of all ETH is staked. If yields become unpredictable, many stakers could find participation unprofitable. Predictable rewards are essential for institutional investors considering ETH positions, he added.

These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
