Altcoin market cap reaches eight-month high as leverage indicators stay subdued

Glassnode data and market indexes indicate that derivatives positioning and dominant Bitcoin share have kept the broader altcoin sector below historical breakout thresholds.

The total market capitalization of altcoins reached $222 billion, marking its highest level in eight months amid a broader crypto market advance. However, derivatives metrics suggest traders have not yet built up the aggressive leverage typically seen during overheated altcoin cycles.

According to Glassnode, relative open interest in altcoin futures compared to Bitcoin stood between -10% and -15%, remaining below the parity threshold that historically signals stretched leverage and elevated liquidation risks. The report notes this leaves open room for speculative activity before derivatives markets become overly crowded.

Major crypto assets also remain well below previous record levels, with Bitcoin down about 36%, Ethereum down 47%, Solana down 61%, and the collective altcoin market cap trailing its all-time high by roughly 54%. Bitcoin dominance remained at 59.19%, while the altcoin season index recorded a neutral reading of 54, failing to hold levels above the 75-mark needed to confirm a distinct altcoin phase.

These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
