Revolut Discloses Data Breach Involving Bitcoin Histories After Fraudulent Request

Digital banking firm Revolut compromised customer information after fulfilling a fraudulent data request that appeared to originate from a legitimate public agency. The attacker used an unauthorized email account established directly within a government authority's domain infrastructure, which carried valid domain authentication credentials and passed the company's internal compliance verification checks.
The resulting disclosure included sensitive know-your-customer information such as customer names, residential addresses, contact details, government-issued identification documents, and verification selfies. Financial records were also exposed, encompassing International Bank Account Numbers (IBANs), account statements, withdrawal logs, and full transaction histories covering Bitcoin activity.
Because Bitcoin transaction logs are publicly visible on-chain, the breach presents privacy risks by linking personal identities and home addresses directly to specific cryptocurrency wallets. On-chain investigator ZachXBT suggested that the operation may have targeted high-net-worth clients, though Revolut has not formally confirmed the specific profiles or total count of affected users.
