Bitcoin faces mixed market signals as price crosses $80,000
On-chain indicators show declining exchange balances alongside persistent selling pressure as Bitcoin moves past the $80,000 threshold.
Bitcoin's move above $80,000 has been accompanied by contrasting technical and on-chain indicators. Data from Alphractal shows that Bitcoin's one-year active supply dropped to 7.49 million, indicating that a larger proportion of coins has remained stationary in wallets over the past 12 months, a trend historically associated with holding behavior.
Exchange reserves tracked by CryptoQuant have also decreased, falling from a local peak of 2.73 million BTC on August 17 to 2.70 million. A reduction in exchange-held assets typically decreases immediately available supply on spot trading platforms.
At the same time, the market has absorbed notable selling activity, with approximately $1.2 billion in BTC offloaded between August 23 and September 1, averaging around $120 million per day. CryptoQuant reported that apparent demand turned negative over a 24-hour window, alongside exchange net outflows of roughly 127,940 BTC, while previous AMBCrypto analysis highlighted $76,000 as a key support level.
