Hargreaves Lansdown Introduces Bitcoin and Ether ETNs to Qualified UK Clients
The UK investment platform has launched crypto exchange-traded notes for eligible high-earning users following the closure of tax-free ISA access.
Hargreaves Lansdown has launched trading for nine Bitcoin and Ethereum exchange-traded notes, making the instruments available to its client base after waiting 330 days following regulatory changes. The products, issued by asset managers including BlackRock, Invesco, CoinShares, WisdomTree, 21Shares, and Bitwise, carry annual fees between 0% and 0.35%.
Platform access is restricted to investors with at least £100,000 in annual income or £250,000 in savings. Eligible participants must also complete an appropriateness assessment and observe a 24-hour waiting period before trading. The notes provide financial exposure to the underlying cryptocurrencies rather than direct ownership of coins.
The launch follows the closure of a tax-free window for retail cryptocurrency products in the UK. While the Financial Conduct Authority lifted its ban in October 2025, permitting crypto ETNs inside tax-exempt individual savings accounts (ISAs), tax authorities ended ISA eligibility in April 2026. As a result, Hargreaves Lansdown users can only access the notes through taxable investment accounts or self-invested personal pensions.
These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
