Proposed Bitcoin Knots Fork Targets Algorithm Change to BLAKE2b
Developers supporting Bitcoin Knots are preparing a potential network fork aimed at replacing the SHA-256d mining algorithm with BLAKE2b.

Bitcoin Knots operates as an alternative client to Bitcoin Core with stricter rules, including restrictions on storing arbitrary data within blocks. Ocean Mining Chief Technology Officer and developer Luke Dashjr asked miners on August 29 to adjust their hash power ahead of an August 30 trial using release candidate 29.4.1rc4, serving as a rehearsal for the transition.
Project documentation indicates that the September 1 date serves as a target rather than an immutable deadline, with provisions for additional release candidates or rollbacks should technical issues arise during implementation. Existing bitcoin holders are not required to take action to secure their balances ahead of the potential split.
