StarkWare Optimization Challenge Cuts Quantum-Safe Bitcoin Transaction Cost
Developers reduced the estimated computational cost of creating quantum-resistant Bitcoin transactions by nearly 79% during a weeklong challenge.
The estimated computing cost to generate an experimental quantum-resistant Bitcoin transaction has decreased to under $67, down from roughly $320 recorded during its first mainnet implementation in August. The efficiency gains were achieved during a weeklong optimization competition organized by StarkWare, Yukon Research, and Eigen Labs.
The Quantum-Safe Bitcoin design, originally introduced in April by StarkWare researcher Avihu Levy, provides hash-based defenses against prospective quantum threats without requiring alterations to Bitcoin's underlying consensus rules. The first live transaction using the method was confirmed on August 26 through MARA’s Slipstream service, requiring approximately 3,100 GPU-hours across roughly 100 GPUs.
StarkWare noted that while the initial hundreds-of-dollars expense served as a proof of concept, reducing the cost to around $66 makes the framework more feasible as an emergency measure for large holders. The team emphasized that these latest performance improvements have so far been demonstrated exclusively in benchmark testing environments.
These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
