Ethereum Average Transfer Fees Fall 87% Following Network Capacity Expansions
Ethereum transfer costs have declined sharply from April levels, aided by the Fusaka upgrade, higher gas limits, and offloaded Layer 2 activity.
Standard Ethereum transaction fees have dropped from $0.72 per transfer during the peak on April 21 to $0.095, representing an 87% decrease, according to data from onchain analytics firm Santiment. The fee compression has occurred alongside higher spot market valuations for the asset relative to earlier periods in the year.
Market analysis attributes the fee reduction to a combination of lower mainnet demand during the summer period and structural increases in network throughput. A reduction in users competing for blockspace initially relieved network pressure, helping drive down basic transfer costs.
Network upgrades have also expanded system capacity. The Fusaka upgrade increased blob data throughput, allowing more transaction information to be processed per block, while an elevated gas limit of 60 million expanded the room available for execution within each block. Additionally, Layer 2 scaling networks have absorbed significant transaction volume that previously competed directly for Ethereum mainnet blockspace.
