Bitget Confirms Containment of $352 Million Exploit Linked to North Korean Hackers
Bitget management confirmed that unauthorized transfers have ceased after an infrastructure breach resulted in roughly $352 million in stolen digital assets.
Bitget chief executive Gracy Chen stated that a $351.6 million security breach has been contained and that no further unauthorized asset movements can take place. The incident, first detected on September 24, involved an intrusion into the exchange's backend wallet infrastructure that manipulated the platform's authorization procedures.
Chen confirmed that private keys were not compromised during the attack, removing the risk of ongoing unauthorized access to the impacted wallets. The stolen funds were primarily composed of $157.4 million in XRP, alongside more than $140 million combined in Ethereum, USDT, and USDC. On-chain data indicates the attacker has already converted roughly $163 million of the proceeds into Ethereum across various secondary wallets.
Bitget attributed the attack to a North Korean hacking group based on identified IP address patterns, while on-chain analysts linked the movement of the stolen XRP to previous exploits associated with the Lazarus Group. Bitget stated that its user protection reserve exceeds $464 million and will cover all customer losses, though a formal timeline for resuming withdrawals has not yet been announced.
These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
