Hackers Steal Nearly 11.7 Million XRP from Over 6,600 D'CENT App Wallets
A coordinated exploit drained close to $20 million in XRP from thousands of software wallet users through pre-compromised private keys across six waves in September.
Attackers stole roughly 11.7 million XRP, valued at nearly $20 million, from 6,678 D’CENT App Wallet users between September 15 and September 20. According to on-chain analysis from XRPL.to, the theft occurred across six separate waves utilizing compromised private keys that the attacker already controlled, rather than an underlying vulnerability in the XRP Ledger network itself.
The operation commenced on September 15 with the manual draining of eight large accounts, followed by automated scripts sweeping thousands of wallets and deleting 5,001 accounts to collect remaining reserve balances. D’CENT acknowledged irregular activity affecting its mobile app wallet on September 16, while confirming that its standalone hardware devices remained secure and urging software users to transfer their balances.
The perpetrator rapidly laundered the proceeds across several platforms, routing approximately 5.6 million XRP to Ethereum via THORChain alongside transfers through Binance, NEAR Intents, and unionchain.ai. As of September 21, approximately 1.3 million XRP remained in the attacker's addresses, while the exact mechanism of the key compromise remains unidentified.
These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
