Standard Chartered Rolls Out Physical Ether and Bitcoin Delivery for Institutions

Standard Chartered's Dubai entity has introduced physically settled Ether and Bitcoin trading, becoming the first systemically important bank to do so.

· +4

Standard Chartered has launched deliverable spot trading for Ether and Bitcoin for institutional clients through its Dubai division, providing direct custody and asset delivery rather than synthetic price exposure. The service is regulated by the Dubai Financial Services Authority.

The bank is the first among the 29 lenders designated as globally systemically important by the Financial Stability Board to offer physical settlement for spot digital assets. Standard Chartered holds a 1% capital surcharge in the lowest risk tier of the FSB framework, whereas larger competitors like Citigroup and JPMorgan sit in higher systemic risk categories.

The rollout represents the final phase of an infrastructure buildout started in September 2024 with digital asset custody for Brevan Howard Digital, followed by London-based spot trading and USDC minting. The institutional desk aims to capture spreads, settlement, and custody fees, while retail participants remain ineligible.

These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
