MoneyGram Launches USDC Visa Card Powered by Stellar Network in Colombia
MoneyGram has rolled out a digital Visa card allowing users in Colombia to spend Circle's USDC directly at retail locations.
MoneyGram launched a digital Visa card program on September 10 that enables customers in Colombia to spend USD Coin balances at merchants across the Visa network. The service utilizes Crossmint for wallet infrastructure, Rain for card issuing, and the Stellar network for transaction settlement.
The product currently operates as a virtual card inside the MoneyGram mobile app, with plans to introduce physical cards and ATM cash withdrawals later in 2026. MoneyGram Chairman and CEO Anthony Soohoo stated that the card aims to give remittance recipients greater control and direct spending capabilities without requiring intermediate conversions.
The selection of USDC is notable given MoneyGram's previous commercial partnership with Ripple, which began in 2019. Ripple has since developed its own RLUSD stablecoin alongside its native XRP token, while MoneyGram opted for Circle's stablecoin and the Stellar blockchain for this rollout.
