Ethereum Leverage Reaches Record 0.65 as Liquidation Risk Grows

Heavy reliance on borrowed exposure in ETH derivatives markets threatens to amplify price swings if volatility strikes.

· -3

Ethereum's derivatives markets have become increasingly leveraged, with the Estimated Leverage Ratio at Binance reaching a record 0.65, up sharply from the 0.20–0.30 range during the 2022 bear market. This expansion reflects rising Open Interest even as Binance's ETH reserves shrink. Funding rates remain near neutral, suggesting positions are crowded rather than directional—a setup where small price moves can trigger outsized liquidation cascades.

Volatility is likely to persist until leveraged positions unwind or spot reserves recover. Institutional investors, however, are taking a longer view. Purpose Investments recently staked 42,000 ETH—worth roughly $80 million and representing 36.6% of its 114,900 ETH holdings—into the Beacon Deposit Contract, locking capital for network participation rather than short-term trading.

The Ethereum Foundation has also signalled long-term conviction, transferring 578.38 ETH to a new self-custody wallet while depositing only 2.675 ETH to Kraken. The pattern suggests treasury management rather than active distribution. These institutional actions reflect sustained confidence despite the elevated liquidation risk in leveraged markets, creating a market structure where derivative crowding coexists with genuine long-term commitment.

These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
