Bitcoin Security Researcher Restricted from Using OpenAI Tools

A Bitcoin Red Team researcher says he turned to open-source Chinese AI models after losing access to OpenAI's security capabilities, raising concerns about tool availability for defensive work.

Rob Hamilton, CEO of AnchorWatch and part of the Bitcoin Red Team volunteer group, reported on Tuesday that he had integrated OpenAI's Trust & Cyber capabilities into his security work on Saturday, only to find his access restricted the following morning. Bitcoin Red Team has identified 1,288 critical and high-level vulnerabilities in the Bitcoin ecosystem to date.

Hamilton stated he would return to using open-source Chinese AI models to continue investigating Bitcoin infrastructure, saying the restriction prevents him from verifying whether code changes are sufficient and from discovering additional vulnerabilities. The researcher emphasized that this access limitation affects defensive security work at a time when attackers remain unrestricted.

The Bitcoin Red Team has been scanning hundreds of open-source Bitcoin repositories for vulnerabilities using AI and human review, with efforts accelerating following the Coldcard hardware wallet hack, which saw over $100 million in Bitcoin stolen. According to reporting from last month, many of the crypto industry's largest players remain unable to access powerful new AI models to strengthen their code defenses, with only a select few having gained access so far.

These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
