Dormant Bitcoin Addresses Move $161 Million Across Four Transactions
Several inactive crypto wallets dating back as far as 2011 transferred nearly 2,000 Bitcoin over a two-week span in September.
Blockchain monitoring by Galaxy Research revealed that four long-inactive Bitcoin wallets transferred a cumulative 1,971.03 BTC, valued at approximately $161 million, between September 6 and September 22. The movements featured addresses that had remained dormant for up to fourteen years.
The largest individual transaction involved 1,260.78 BTC worth about $100.63 million, which had not moved since July 2016 when the asset traded near $652. Other transfers included a March 2011 wallet moving 10.25 BTC, a November 2011 wallet sending 100 BTC, and a July 2012 address transferring 600 BTC valued at $51.9 million.
Three of the four active addresses carried "Noah Doe" sender tags associated with a New York lawsuit attempting to classify unclaimed Bitcoin addresses as abandoned property. Activity involving wallets named in the legal action has continued periodically since a judge placed the proceedings on hold in June.
