Symbiosis Halts Bitcoin Bridge Following $336,000 Minting Exploit
A cross-chain protocol suspended its Bitcoin routing after an attacker minted unbacked synthetic BTC tokens through a vulnerable smart contract.
Cross-chain liquidity protocol Symbiosis suffered a security incident on September 11, 2026, resulting in approximately $336,000 in losses. An attacker exploited a vulnerability in the protocol's BridgeV2 smart contract by submitting a malformed message, allowing the unauthorized minting of syBTC tokens without depositing collateral on the underlying Bitcoin blockchain.
Following the detection of the exploit at approximately 04:28 UTC, the Symbiosis team suspended all Bitcoin-related routing while keeping connections across other supported networks active. Tracking database DeFiLlama classified the incident as an unbacked cross-chain mint under identifier DCI-2026-304.
The breach was confined entirely to the bridge's contract architecture and did not impact the operation or security of the native Bitcoin network. As of September 12, interface queries indicated that user transfer functionality remained partially restricted, with one routing direction suspended while the other continued operating.
These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
