Kenya Deploys Avalanche Blockchain to Protect 35M Academic Credentials
Kenya's education council is moving 35 million academic records onto Avalanche's blockchain, enabling instant credential verification nationwide.
Kenya's National Examinations Council (KNEC) has launched a blockchain-based platform built on Avalanche infrastructure to combat forged academic certificates and streamline credential verification. The initiative encompasses educational records dating back to 1989, with more than 15 million credentials already integrated into the system and projections to reach 35 million total records as the rollout continues.
The platform eliminates time-consuming paper-based verification processes, allowing employers, universities, and government agencies to authenticate qualifications within seconds rather than months. Starting in 2025, approximately one million KCSE certificates are being distributed exclusively through the digital system, with students able to retrieve and authenticate their credentials online via a protected portal.
Avalanche's C-Chain infrastructure handles both historical records and newly-issued digital certificates as students complete national examinations. The initiative addresses Kenya's ongoing challenges with counterfeit academic documents and fraudulent qualifications.
