Bitcoin Surpasses $80,000 Following CFTC Regulatory Moves and Short Liquidations

Bitcoin rebounded above $81,000 as regulatory filings and leveraged liquidations helped offset headwinds from recent central bank interest rate hikes.

Bitcoin climbed back above the $80,000 mark on September 18, 2026, reaching around $81,000 for a daily gain of roughly 6 percent. The asset recorded a 24-hour range between $76,205 and $81,213, placing its total market valuation at approximately $1.63 trillion. Although Bitcoin is up nearly 19 percent over 30 days, it remains about 31 percent lower over the past 12 months and below its peak of $126,080 reached in October 2025.

The rebound was supported by several market factors. On September 17, the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission submitted two regulatory proposals to the White House following the failure of the CLARITY Act in the Senate. Concurrently, data from CoinDesk showed that approximately $238 million in Bitcoin short positions, and $470 million across all crypto assets, were liquidated within 24 hours. In addition, US spot Bitcoin ETFs registered net inflows of around $159.5 million on Thursday.

Despite the rally, macroeconomic pressures persist. Both the US Federal Reserve and the Bank of Japan raised their benchmark interest rates by 0.25 percentage points during the week, presenting ongoing headwinds for risk assets that trade in correlation with technology equities.

These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
