Ethereum was trading near $2,722, requiring an approximate 84% advance to reach $5,000. While the token posted weekly gains of 14% and a monthly rise of 11%, it remained down 34% from its level of $4,165 recorded a year prior. Historical data shows ETH previously faced resistance near the $5,000 mark, peaking at $4,867 in November 2021 before closing that month at $4,642, and reaching $4,956 in August 2025 before settling the month at $4,392.
With circulating supply currently standing around 122 million ETH, a $5,000 price level represents a network valuation of roughly $610 billion, compared to the $598 billion peak seen in August 2025. Annual supply growth has remained subdued at roughly 1% over the past year.
The market structure has changed due to increased staking and fund adoption. Staked tokens accounted for 35.6% of the total ETH supply by September 18, up from 29.8% a year earlier, even as staking yields of around 2.7% competed with 10-year US Treasury yields approaching 5%. In addition, spot Ethereum funds tracked by SoSoValue have gathered about $13.3 billion since July 2024, including $144 million on September 18.
