Solana Foundation schedules Alpenglow consensus upgrade for epoch 1064

A forthcoming consensus upgrade on Solana will replace TowerBFT to reduce transaction finality times, with specific compliance requirements set for network validators.

· +3

The Solana Foundation has scheduled its Alpenglow consensus upgrade to activate at the start of epoch 1064, estimated for October 21, 2026, at approximately 15:00 UTC. The switch replaces the TowerBFT mechanism in use since 2020, aiming to reduce payment finality from approximately 12.8 seconds to a target of roughly 150 milliseconds.

The upgrade introduces two conditions that validators must meet prior to epoch 1064. Non-compliant validators will be barred from voting and producing blocks in the subsequent epoch, which would result in delegated stakers missing their staking rewards for that duration.

According to the Foundation, the new protocol is designed to tolerate up to 20 percent malicious stake alongside 20 percent offline stake. While the consensus layer changes, the Solana Virtual Machine execution environment and standard user wallet operations will remain unchanged.

These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
