Bank for International Settlements Tests XRP Ledger for Official Statistics Verification
A BIS proof of concept anchored cryptographic hashes on the XRP Ledger to verify the integrity and origin of official statistical publications.
The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) has tested the XRP Ledger as an integrity layer for official economic and financial statistics, according to BIS Working Paper No. 1374 published on September 2. The research addresses a gap in the SDMX data exchange standard, which lacks native verification tools once datasets are redistributed.
In the prototype, datasets were converted into SHA3-512 cryptographic fingerprints and combined into a Merkle tree. The resulting root value was anchored onto the XRP Ledger alongside a signed W3C Verifiable Credential to prove authorship. The actual statistical data remained off-chain to maintain confidentiality.
The BIS selected the XRP Ledger due to its low nominal fees, fast settlement finality, developer resources, and existing consensus research. The system achieved median publishing times of 3 to 5 seconds and verification times of 1 to 2 seconds, with the implementation released as open source via BIS Open Tech.
The XRP token served solely to pay network transaction costs of approximately 10 drops (0.00001 XRP) per anchoring entry, playing no role as a tracked asset within the statistical framework.
These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
