Ethereum Tests 200-Million Gas Limit on Sepolia Ahead of Glamsterdam Upgrade
Ethereum developers activated the Glamsterdam upgrade on the Sepolia testnet, successfully tripling the block gas limit to 200 million.
The Glamsterdam update was deployed to Ethereum's Sepolia testnet on Tuesday, October 6, at epoch 353,024, raising the gas limit per block from 60 million to 200 million. Gas represents the computational capacity per block, meaning higher limits allow the network to handle significantly more transactions simultaneously, provided validator hardware can manage the increased load.
The testnet rollout narrowly avoided complications after consensus client Prysm released its version 7.2.1 patch late on Monday, just hours prior to activation. Without this update, validators using Prysm would have continued proposing blocks under the old 60-million cap, which would have undermined the validity of the stress test.
Developers are using the Sepolia deployment to evaluate network stability under triple the normal block volume before establishing capacity targets for the mainnet. The 200-million threshold applies exclusively to Sepolia for now, with testing on the Hoodi testnet scheduled for October 27. The Glamsterdam mainnet release is targeted for the fourth quarter of 2026, followed by the Hegotá upgrade planned for 2027.
These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
