Pocket Bitcoin Data Breach Exposes Records and Addresses of Over 5,400 Users
Swiss non-custodial provider Pocket Bitcoin has concluded an investigation into a support system breach that compromised personal details and Bitcoin addresses.
Swiss Bitcoin service Pocket Bitcoin revealed that a security breach compromised data belonging to 5,411 customers. The non-custodial platform, which automatically converts incoming bank transfers into Bitcoin sent to user wallets, confirmed that private keys and customer funds remained uncompromised throughout the incident.
The company categorized the affected users into two distinct groups based on the exposure level. A larger cohort of 5,120 individuals had bank transaction records exposed, including names and home addresses. A second group of 291 users suffered more extensive data leaks, encompassing copies of identification documents, proof of source of funds, and associated Bitcoin receiving addresses.
The intruder gained access through the provider's customer support system, where documents generated from communications with partner banks were stored. Pocket Bitcoin initially disclosed the incident on August 21, 2026, closed its investigation on September 3, and stated that the vulnerability has been patched. The company has filed a criminal complaint and notified data protection regulators in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
