USDC Captures Over 98% of AI Agent Payment Volume Ahead of XRP and Solana
Stablecoins have become the primary settlement medium for automated software transactions, outpacing other cryptocurrencies.
Automated software agents are conducting high volumes of machine-to-machine micropayments, with Coinbase reporting 69,000 active agents and 165 million transactions totaling around $50 million in cumulative volume by late April 2026. Operating under the x402 protocol, these autonomous transfers average less than a fraction of a cent per execution.
Although assets like XRP and Solana have been considered for automated settlements, Circle’s USDC has taken an overwhelming market share.
