Bitcoin Defies Historical September Weakness With a 7.8% Monthly Advance

Despite a historical track record of negative September returns, Bitcoin is trading higher this month following a rebound from mid-month macro and legislative pressure.

Bitcoin reached $84,702 on September 21, 2026, marking a 7.8% increase for the month and an 8.2% weekly advance after ending August at $78,563. The performance defies historical seasonal patterns tracked by CoinGlass, which show Bitcoin declining in eight of the past 13 Septembers with an average historical loss of 2.9%.

The current monthly gain comes after a mid-September dip to roughly $76,000, triggered when the Senate halted the CLARITY Act on September 15 and the Federal Reserve raised interest rates on September 16. Bitcoin recovered by surging 11% over the subsequent five days, extending upside momentum from gains of 7.4% in July and 25% in August.

September's negative reputation largely originated from a five-year losing streak between 2017 and 2021, prior to the introduction of spot ETFs and large-scale corporate treasury buying. The asset subsequently recorded positive September returns in 2023 (3.9%), 2024 (7.3%), and 2025 (5.2%). While positive Septembers in 2015, 2016, 2023, and 2024 were followed by fourth-quarter gains, the pattern saw an exception in 2025 when fourth-quarter performance dropped 23.1% despite a positive September.

These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
