Justin Drake Advocates Shift to Hash-Based Cryptography Amid AI Security Warnings

Ethereum Foundation researcher Justin Drake raised concerns that rapid AI advancements could challenge existing elliptic curve signatures.

Justin Drake of the Ethereum Foundation has warned that rapid progress in artificial intelligence could compromise ECDSA cryptographic signatures earlier than previously anticipated. The signature scheme secures transactions across both Ethereum and Bitcoin networks.

Under current network mechanics, submitting a signed transaction reveals a wallet's public key on-chain. Drake warned that if an AI system can efficiently calculate private keys from public keys on existing hardware clusters, exposed wallets could become vulnerable to unauthorized withdrawals.

Drake recommended a controlled move of assets to new addresses that have never broadcast a transaction, keeping public keys protected behind a cryptographic hash. Pointing to 722 AI-generated math results published by OpenAI, Drake noted that he will push to speed up Ethereum's transition toward post-quantum, hash-based security measures.

These two are not the same thing, and one does not produce the other. The left is how this single article reads, from its tone alone. The right is the site’s own call on the asset, from indicators and analysis. Press tone feeds no score and no signal: on the only corpus this site has measured, daily tone tracked the move that had already happened and showed no measurable link with what followed.
