Wyoming Migrates State Stable Token to Chainlink CCIP Over Security Concerns
The Wyoming Stable Token Commission has fully transitioned its FRNT token from LayerZero to Chainlink's cross-chain protocol after citing critical security failures.
The Wyoming Stable Token Commission has completed the migration of its state-issued Frontier Stable Token (FRNT) across all eight supporting blockchains from LayerZero to Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP). The decision follows security reviews initiated after an April 2026 exploit of a KelpDAO bridge powered by LayerZero, which resulted in a $292 million theft linked to North Korean hackers.
According to chief security officer Keith Lawhorn, the agency identified repeated operational security lapses at LayerZero Labs, including a mishandled production authorization and the loss of control over a private key tied to an active FRNT deployment. Lawhorn criticized LayerZero's architecture for placing excessive security responsibility on individual developers and relying on limited verifier sets.
LayerZero CEO Bryan Pellegrino publicly contested the severity of the findings, characterizing the primary issue as a minor view-only feature that was swiftly corrected. Wyoming nonetheless completed the transition to Chainlink CCIP, which operates with 16 node operators and maintains SOC 2 Type 2 security certification.
